Walking Towards Resurrection: A Transgender Passion Narrative

We are excited to announce that Father Shannon Kearns will be joining us for a Resource Round up highlighting his 2015 e-book/audio book (and companion journal) “Walking Toward Resurrection: A Transgender Passion Narrative” on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 7pm Eastern/4pm Pacific.

The LIVE session will also be recorded and offered on demand through Transfaith Institute. Don’t let a schedule conflict keep you away!

We are collecting $5 per participant because we believe in compensating transgender time and expertise! Fr Shannon will receive a portion of every registration.

In the course room and the recorded video session, you will find:

  • A promo code for 50% off the e-book/audio book (and companion journal) at Queer Theology

  • Background on how the resources came to be

  • Discussion and resources on transgender inclusion during Holy Week

  • Discussion and resources on reading scripture together with our lived experience

  • Suggestions for how to use the resources in your personal life or local community and how to follow up afterwards

  • More on what Fr Shannon is working on now

  • Q&A with Fr Shannon

“Fr Shay’s e-book is one of the first real works of transgender theology that I became aware of,” shares Transfaith Institute coordinator, Chris Paige. “While there is plenty to be learned about transgender experience from the way he shares his story, he doesn’t bother with doing ‘Transgender 101.’”

“I love the way Fr Shay works with so many familiar texts,” says Rev Louis Mitchell, Transfaith executive director. “He gives each of us permission to grapple with both the sacred text and our own lived experience in a way that is raw and authentic. It’s powerful.”

Father Shannon T.L. Kearns is a writer, speaker, and theologian. He is the co-founder of Queer Theology. He is also the founder of Uprising Theatre Company. He graduated from Union Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity and is an ordained priest in the Old Catholic Church.

This offering is a part of our April 2019 “Double Feature” which also includes Rabbi Emily Aviva Kapor-Mater talking about her “Haggadah Shir Ge’ulah (the Song of Liberation)” in honor of Jewish Passover.
